BRIDGEWATER, NJ — A service disruption that plagued the Bridgewater-Raritan Regional School District since Monday was restored on Thursday.
“As of today, December 15th, we are pleased to announce that District phones, email, internet, and wifi service have been restored,” said Superintendent of Schools Robert Beers in a community update on Thursday.
In Beers’ letter, he noted that the district experienced a service disruption on Monday requiring some components of the computer systems to be taken offline.
“I want to thank the entire school community for their patience and cooperation during this unprecedented disruption. We applaud the efforts and expertise of our staff, especially the tireless
work of our technology department,” said Beers.
The cause of the disruption is still under investigation.

To the BRHS Community,
I’d like to take a moment to provide more context regarding events in the last few days.
Recently, we’ve received many communications from parents and students who are concerned about a student making threats to individual students on social media. These messages are a healthy response to a serious matter. This type of community response is exactly what is required to prevent harmful events from occurring. So, thank you for taking action.
However, in similar matters, it’s important to know that school officials are unable to provide details regarding specific students or matters currently under investigation. This is a violation of federal privacy law. As a result, our communications may sometimes lack detail. The administration and security team take these matters very seriously. We would never intentionally put our students in harm’s way. In this situation, for example, we addressed the issue immediately, over a week ago, and also involved the Bridgewater Police Department. Unfortunately, rumors persisted on social media, which perpetuated allegations that had already been resolved. This has led to several students behaving inappropriately during two incidents, which ultimately exacerbated the same false rumors that lead to our message last evening.
Additionally, in combination with our service disruption, many families have felt that their children were not safe at school. We are truly sympathetic to your concerns, but the school has never actually been unsafe. Despite temporary inconveniences regarding our computer systems, our internal operations remained functional and district security has been present throughout the campus.
I hope this message helps to alleviate any concerns you may have. Rest assured, the administration would never operate a school day if we couldn’t provide a safe environment for our students and staff.
Cordially,
Daniel Hemberger
Principal
