MSI will not launch reference AMD RX 7900 cards

It has been a third day since Radeon RX 7900 series were officially released, but MSI did not show any design based on the new AMD RDNA3 series.Β

MSI is one of the biggest manufacturers of graphics cards, yet unlike Gigabyte or ASUS, they did not release any Radeon RX 7900 card yet. In fact, the company did not even show a reference-based model that AMD itself is supplying to all partners.

Unlike ASUS or Gigabyte, MSI also did not show any custom design yet either. ASUS not only managed to release reference cards, but also custom designs which were already shipped to reviewers and retailers on time.

MSI has now confirmed to Andreas Schilling (HardwareLuxx) that there are Radeon RX 7900 cards coming, except they are not launching until Q1 2023. Furthermore, no reference (MBA – Made by AMD) designs are planned.

The fact that MSI will have Radeon 7900 cards is not a surprise, the company confirmed a few days ago on Twitter. What is surprising is that it is taking this long and clearly later than what the tweet appeared to suggest.

MSI is usually very keen on showing prototype designs weeks before they enter mass production. Yet, this time the company has not even released one render of the expected RX 7900 model. That said, the design might have changed dramatically, or it is still under development and the final choice has not been made. In any case, do not expect MSI RX 7900 cards anytime soon.
