Jenna Dewan felt blindsided by some surprising news she read online. It was available for her, and many others, to read after her divorce from Channing Tatum.
It seems the Step Up actress was hurt by finding out the story from the media. Considering the pain she says she went through during the couple’s divorce, maybe the Magic Mike star could’ve given her a heads-up before the story hit the press.
The two met filming a dance film that launched a franchise: Step Up. Their chemistry was magic on-screen, and the two began dating, and got married in 2009. Unfortunately, not every relationship lasts, and they divorced in 2019. After the divorce, Jenna Dewan felt betrayed after discovering news from the internet about Tatum.
Jenna Dewan and Channing Tatum Announced Their Separation In 2018
Releasing an exclusive statement to People, Jenna Dewan and Channing Tatum announced their decision to split to the world.
Revealing in their statement, “We have lovingly chosen to separate as a couple. We fell deeply in love so many years ago and have had a magical journey together. Absolutely nothing has changed about how much we love one another, but love is a beautiful adventure that is taking us on different paths for now.”
They also revealed there were “no secrets”, nor anything else that cause it. They stated, “There are no secrets nor salacious events at the root of our decision — just two best-friends realizing it’s time to take some space and help each other live the most joyous, fulfilled lives as possible.”
Dewan and Tatum also revealed they would both be involved in their daughter’s life, and would not be commenting publicly on the split. “We are still a family and will always be loving dedicated parents to Everly. We won’t be commenting beyond this, and we thank you all in advance for respecting our family’s privacy.”
Why Did Jenna Dewan Feel Blindsided By The Internet?
Jenna Dewan and her now ex-husband Channing Tatum divorced in 2019. Dewan dealt with many dark times during this period. One of the most painful came when she found out with everyone else that her ex-husband was suddenly dating someone new.
According to Eonline, in Dewan’s book, Gracefully You: Finding Beauty And Balance In The Everyday, Dewan revealed:
“I was learning things about my ex most people wouldn’t have to face – and over the internet, as it was happening. There I was, on a plane, alone, finding out about his new relationship. I felt blindsided. Choosing grace as I learned everything about my personal situation along with the rest of the world was really difficult.”
Many people, including celebrities, have probably experienced being blindsided by a former partner in some way. Sometimes by text, or online, with a picture of an ex with a new partner days later. Unfortunately celebrities don’t live private lives like most of us.
This means when they’re blindsided by a partner, any feelings shown could be dissected by the public. And not only are they reading it, but so are their friends, family, fans and haters. Celebrities also have to deal with interviewers asking about private painful moments, and numerous people adding their opinions about their relationships.
Jenna Dewan’s Response To The Unexpected News
Jenna Dewan put a lot of thought into her book title. She also put some thought into how she should react to the situation. She also chose to react in a different way, instead of stirring up more controversy about what had happened.
According to Yahoo, Dewan wrote in her book, Gracefully You: Finding Beauty And Balance In The Everyday, “Instead of reacting the way I wanted to… I asked myself this: How do I choose grace in this moment? Had I not been practicing this way of life beforehand, I definitely wouldn’t have handled this news very gracefully.”
Similar to many who have been blindsided by a partner, Dewan want to respond with anger. But luckily most of us end up starting to type out angry responses only to decide not to hit the send button. And for some of us who might hit the send button, it’s usually not seen and discussed by numerous members of the public.
Dewan experienced these same feelings, writing, “Do you know how many times I’ve wanted to go online and write exactly what’s on my mind? Thousands. My instinct is to fight back, set the record straight. What stops me every time is: ‘Choose to say what you would want yourself to live with a week from today.’ Or ‘Choose what you would want Everly to read when she’s older.”
Dewan has healed and moved on as well. She is now in a relationship with Steve Kazee. “When I was ready, I started dating someone amazing. It was this cosmically great thing where we circled back around each other after a moment of instant recognition years ago.”
