Perhaps, it’s not uncommon for St. Bernards to dab in some silliness as they are known for being “gentle” giants with a “clumsy nature.”

The American Kennel Club (AKC) says a male can be as heavy as 180 pounds and a female can weigh up to 140 pounds.

They might be big but they “are famously watchful and patient ‘nanny dogs’ for children,” according to the AKC.

Can Saint Bernards Be Guard Dogs?

The viral video was captured on CCTV footage. It shows a woman coming in from what seems to be a garden through a sliding glass door into an empty room. The dog nonchalantly follows, pauses for a bit inside the room then, out of the blue, storms out through the other sliding door. The Saint Bernard barely flinches as it unhinges the glass door and it shatters on the ground.

TikTokers have pointed out they initially thought the woman in the video was trespassing. One comment racked up over 12,000 likes, it said: “Thought it was an intruder and the dog was gonna kick off.”

While Saint Bernards “are unlikely to ever excel at being guard dogs, they will sometimes bark at strangers, making them great watchdogs,” according to the Tindog website.

The Tinder for pet owners to meet other animal lovers points out that “the biggest danger with them is their size and sometimes clumsy nature, meaning it’s good to watch them around small children and items that can be easily knocked over.”

What Do the Comments Say?

More than 2,100 people have commented on the video, and one user asked: “Is the big clumsy baby ok?”

Others have focused on the woman who doesn’t seem to make a move following the incident.

One comment that received more than 8,200 likes said: “I’m stunned by her calmness….”

“The length of time she stood there speechless and shocked was totally acceptable,” said another.

“Legend says she’s still standing there,” wrote another.

One person focusing on the dog’s reaction said: “He didn’t even flinch or turn back to find out what the massive crash was.”

Previously, Newsweek shared a story about a Saint Bernard mothering a cocker spaniel puppy and another on the tear-jerking moment one is rescued after being hit by a car.
