“Talk about the build-up of pressure that Mitchell Starc has created on Jansen,” Ponting said on Channel 7.
“Quite often it can have an effect that the wicket will fall at the other end.
“Nathan Lyon is halfway through his fourth over. Only given up the eight runs, they’ve got mid-on three-quarters of the way back.
“They are tempting him with a build-up of pressure to try and hit over the top.”
Sure enough, the very next ball Jansen did exactly as predicted and skied a shot that was well caught by Cam Green.
Fellow Channel 7 commentator Tim Lane was quick to praise Ponting for the great call.
“Well done, Ricky. Exactly as foretold. Lyon takes the wicket. And South Africa now with a lot of work to do. 6/132,” he said.
Social media also lit up with many fans labelling Ponting “the best in the business”.
After winning the toss and electing to bowl, Australia dismissed South Africa for just 152 at the Gabba.
Lyon and Mitchell Starc picked up three wickets each, while Scott Boland and Pat Cummins chimed in for two apiece.
